Bhubaneswar: To commemorate the birth anniversary of eminent litterateur Dr Prasanna Kumar Mishra, an event ‘Phalguna Asara’ was held in the city on Thursday.
One of the most popular books of Dr Mishra ‘Truck Dalare Sanatana’ was re-released on the occasion. The book it was published by Black Eagle Books, USA.
It is a collection of 31 revolutionary poems based on various themes ranging from Marxism to labour migration written in 1980s which can be related with contemporary times. It is a characteristic representation of peasants and labourers and their timeless struggle for survival in the society. A documentary film ‘Rahu Ki Na Rahu’ on the literary works of Dr Mishra was also screened.
One of Dr Mishra’s favourite students, Ranjan Kumar Das, Director of Culture Department, sent a touching video message remembering his teacher’s highly admired series of poems ‘Monica ra Priya’.
The guests at the function including Prof Raj Kishore Mishra, Mamata Das, Dash Benhur and Kedar Mishra recollected the rich literature of Dr Mishra and its lasting impact on the Odia literary field as well as the upcoming generations. Be it children’s literature or scientific fiction, Dr Mishra has covered the whole length.
He left his engineering studies midway to study at Viswa Bharti in Shantiniketan. Enamoured by literature at a very young age, Dr Mishra etched his name in every genre of Odia literature: poetry, plays, novels, short stories, children’s literature, translation, research work on folklore.
Dr. Mishra’s daughter Prachitara, a renowned storyteller, read out his story ‘Chandan Bagwan’.
