Cuttack: Noted Odia actor, playwright and theatre artiste Sachi Das passed away on Thursday following a prolonged illness. He was 91.
Known for his versatility in cinema and theatre world, Das was ailing for quite some time and he breathed his last around 9.30 am while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Cuttack, family sources said.
The final rites will be performed at his ancestral village Bari in Jajpur district.
Apart from acting in several Odia films, Das had carved a special identity for his performances on the stage. He was known as an actor, director, playwright and stage artiste in the state. ‘Saguna Basichi Dena Melei’ is among his popular directorial venture in the world of Jatra.
Winner of a number of awards, Das had bagged the prestigious Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi Award and Kabi Samrat Upendra Bhanja Samman for his contribution to the field of performing arts.
He was also conferred with the prestigious Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra Award in 2018 for his outstanding acting skill.
Eminent film personalities, actors and other artistes mourned his demise and paid their last respect to the departed soul.
