Bhubaneswar: Eminent Odia marine biologist Dr Jayant Kumar Mishra passed away on May 5. He was 57.
A diabetic patient, Mishra was undergoing treatment at GB Pant Hospital in Port Blair.
He was posted as a professor in the Department of Ocean Studies & Marine Biology on the Port Blair campus of Pondicherry University.
A native of Sidheswarpur village of Dasarathpur block in Jajpur district, Mishra completed his Matriculation from Rambag High School and BSc from NC College in Jajpur.
Later, he attended Berhampur University where he completed his MSc and M.Phil. He completed his PhD in Marine Biology from the same university in 1993. He then went to Japan where he pursued his post-doctoral studies and got the Doctor of Fisheries (D.FS) from Nagasaki University in 2001.
He had published several research works in national and international magazines. His documentary film on the blue crab titled “The Survivor” had won him a national award.
