Bhubaneswar: Expressing deep grief over the demise of eminent Hindustani vocalist Pandit Damodar Hota, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Sunday announced that he will be cremated with state honours.
“His contribution to Indian classical music will be ever remembered by the posterity,” he said.
The CM also conveyed his deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
The legendary vocalist breathed his last here late Saturday night. He was 87.
A giant in the world of Hindustani and Odissi classical music, he was born on December 25, 1935, in Puri. His research on Odissi classical music in 1960s was groundbreaking as it revealed the historical roots, distinct ragas, talas, and lakshyanas of the music.
He also served as principal and senior faculty of Hindustani vocal music at Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya.
