Bhubaneswar: Eminent surgeon Dr Bhabani Shankar Bal died of post COVID complications here on Monday. He was 57.
Dr Bal tested positive for COVID-19 and was admitted to Apollo Hospital in a critical condition in May. His lungs were severely damaged. After three months of treatment, he was transferred to Capital Hospital where he underwent treatment in the ICU for about 20 days. Dr Bal had returned home on Sunday but his condition worsened on Monday night and he died before being taken to hospital.
He died at his government quarters in Unit-4. The untimely demise of Dr Bal has cast a shadow of mourning over various palaces. He is survived by wife and son, who is also a doctor.
The last rites were performed at Puri Swargadwar.
