Bhubaneswar: Odia writer and columnist Gourahari Das will be conferred with Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize for the year 2021 for ‘Chheli Chareibara Dina’, an Odia translation of Malayalam novel ‘Aadujeevitham’ by Uday Parkash.
Twenty-two books have been selected for this category and the Akademi made the announcement on Friday,
Das will receive a cash reward of Rs 50,000 and a copper plaque at an event to be held later this year.
Notably, this is the second Akademi award to be conferred on him. Das’ collection of short stories ‘Kanta O’ Anyanya Galpa’, comprising 16 stories depicting a glimpse of rural Odisha, had won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2012.
He has written 47 books, including 14 compilations of short stories, five novels, a play and an anthology of poems, essays and features, so far. Das received the state Sahitya Akademi Award for his contribution to literature in the year 2000.
