End Of An Era As Veteran Odia Academician Debabala Ray Breathes Her Last

Bhubaneswar: Veteran Odia academician Debabala Ray breathed her last on Saturday night. She was 95.

A former Principal of Ramadevi Women’s College and Joint Director of Public Instruction, Debabala was an economics teacher.

She was a strict disciplinarian and was also known for her philanthropic work. She played a key role in setting up the Barada Hospital of the Ashram.

A spinster, she led a simple and pious life.

She was born in a family of eminent lawyers. Her father was Justice Bira Kishore Ray, the first Chief Justice of Orissa High Court, while her brother Sukanta Kishore Ray was also Chief Justice of Orissa HC. Another brother of hers was Justice Bijay Kishore Ray, a Judge of Orissa HC.
