Engineer Among Two Drown While Bathing In Odisha Waterfall, One Body Recovered

Jajpur: Two persons, including an engineer, drowned in a waterfall in Kaliapani area of Odisha’s Jajpur district on Saturday afternoon.

While Sukinda Fire Service personnel have recovered the body of Shambhu Pradhan (22) of Kanjiapal village under Lembo panchayat, the other is yet to be traced. The missing youth has been identified as Manas Mahanta, a BTech graduate from Koil village employed in Bengaluru.

According to sources, the duo along with a minor boy, Butura Maharana, went on an adventure trip to the seasonal waterfall in the Mahagiri hill range under the Sukinda forest division at around 10 am. Shambhu and Manas dived into the waterfall to take a bath. When the duo did not return after a long time, Butura alerted their families and local villagers.

By 1 pm, a fire brigade team from Sukinda reached the spot and managed to retrieve Shambhu’s body. The search effort was hampered when an iron hook device got stuck in the deep pit beneath the waterfall. Later, another team of Fire Service personnel from Bhuban in Dhenkanal district joined the rescue efforts.

According to locals, the waterfall plunges nearly 300 feet into a deep and treacherous pit and youngsters have been flocking to the water body after getting to know about it from reels on social media.
