Cuttack: The Orissa High Court on Thursday deferred the hearing of the anticipatory bail petition of the Patnagarh MLA Saroj Meher.
The court, while deferring the hearing, asked the police to submit the case diary pertaining to the incident in which Meher had forced a PWD junior engineer Jayakant Sabar to do the sit-ups and directed the executive engineer to slap him in public on June 6.
Following the incident, the tribal body Balangir Zilla Adivasi Kalyan Sangh had demonstrated at the office of the district collector demanding immediate arrest of the MLA. Besides, the Odisha Diploma Engineers Association had also demanded stern action against him.
