Bhubaneswar: A Bhubaneswar court granted conditional bail to Patnagarh MLA Saroj Meher on Saturday.
The Special Additional District Judge (ADJ)-II court, Bhubaneswar ordered the MLA’s release after telling him to execute a personal bond of Rs 25,000 with two bail sureties.
The court also directed Meher to cooperate with the police investigation. It also directed police to provide protection to the family of the PWD junior engineer, Jayakant Sabar, on the basis of the petition filed by his wife, Prabina Rajhans.
Meher, who is at present lodged in Jharpada Jail, Notably, was arrested on June 24 for allegedly humiliating the engineer and forcing him to do sit-ups in public over poor quality road construction work on June 4.
The engineer’s wife had lodged a police complaint against the MLA on June 6 on the basis of which the police had registered a case.
