Cuttack: The Commissionerate Police here on Saturday arrested a mechanical engineering graduate, preparing for civil services exam, for allegedly stalking and blackmailing a married woman since 8 months.
The arrested has been identified as Pratush Mohanty (32), a resident of Chauliaganj in Cuttack Sadar area.
According to a police release, he was arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by the woman, a resident of Bhubaneswar’s Tomando but staying in Uttarakhand, at Bhubaneswar Cyber police station.
Mohanty, a spurned lover, allegedly stalked and harassed the woman by uploading objectionable posts on fake social media accounts to tarnish her image. He also made threatening calls and sent emails, abusive messages and letters/parcel from Bhubaneswar to the victim, her husband, and her in-laws to humiliate her.
Mohanty was arrested on the basis of CCTV footage, fake accounts and digital evidence retrieved from his phone. “The accused impersonated by creating fake account, sent forged and fake documents and electronic record and defaming messages while stalking her on all social media platforms,” the release added.
