Bhubaneswar: A student of an engineering college in Odisha capital was allegedly beaten up and abducted by some miscreants late Monday night.
Speaking about the incident to media persons on Tuesday, the victim, identified as Uttam Kumar Sarangi from Rourkela, said while he was returning to his hostel after celebrating the birthday of one of his friends, some miscreants of the college attacked him.
As Uttam sustained injury on his head and started bleeding, the miscreants stopped beating him. They said they did not want to injure him and offered to take him to hospital for treatment.
“I could not know what to say. Neither I recognised them nor could know why they beat me as I did not have enmity with them,” he said.
However, they took Uttam on a motorcycle to a clinic at Sundarpada in the city where he was treated for his injury. Following the treatment, the miscreants took him to Jatni and dumped him near a crematorium around midnight.
Uttam managed to contact his friends who brought him to Bhubaneswar. Later, Uttam filed a complaint with police. On the basis of his statement, the police detained a second year BTech student identified as Nitish in connection with the incident. Uttam identified him as one of the kidnappers.
