Keonjhar: An engineering college student reportedly drowned to death while bathing in the Kainjhari river in Odisha’s Keonjhar district on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Aditya Mahanta, who hailed from Magurgadia area of Keonjhar town.
According to sources, Aditya was a student of Bachelors in Tech
nology (BTech) at the Keonjhar Degree Engineering College. He along with a friend went for a bath to Kainjhari river under Keonjhar Sadar police limits near Gopalpur this morning. Since he did not know swimming, he struggled to stay afloat after somehow drifting deep into the waters.
His friend tried his best to save him but failed. He then raised an alarm and called for help. Officers from Sadar police station arrived along with Fire Service team, who fished Aditya’s body out of the river. Unfortunately, the young student had passed away.
Police have recovered his body, informed his family and launched an investigation into the death. His body has been taken to District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for post-mortem.
