Bhubaneswar: An engineering student allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in a private hostel in Bhubaneswar on Thursday.
As per reports, the deceased, identified as Satya Swarup Panda was a 3rd year Computer Science student of a private engineering college in the city. He was staying in a private hostel at Sector V in Niladri Vihar.
On Thursday afternoon, the locals found his body hanging from the ceiling in his room. On being informed, a team from Chandrasekharpur police station along with a scientific team went to the spot and retrieved the body.
They have registered a case of unnatural death and launched investigation to ascertain the circumstances that led the student to take the extreme step.
Sources said Satya was indulged in substance abuse. His family suspected that he might have committed suicide under intoxication.
It may be noted that an ITI student was found hanging in the hostel of an educational institution under Mancheswar police limits in the city recently.
