Burla: An engineering student was found hanging in his hostel room at Ve Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT), Burla, in Sambalpur district on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Subhrajit Pradhan. He was a third-year student in civil trade.

Subhrajit was found hanging from cotton towel inside the hostel. He was immediately rushed to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla where the doctors declared him dead.

The cause of the student’s death is yet to be ascertained.

A similar incident was also reported from Hi-Tech Medical College in Bhubaneswar on April 22 when a third-year MBBS student of the college, identified as Nihar Ranjan Rout of Soro in Balasore district, was found dead in his hostel room under mysterious circumstances.

Nihar’s family members had lodged a complaint at Mancheswar police station here against the college authorities alleging that their ward had been murdered. They had claimed that Nihar was being repeatedly harassed by the authorities concerned to pay an amount of Rs 8 lakh to compensate for obtaining poor marks in examinations.

However, the college authorities had refuted the allegations levelled against them.
