Entire Family Attempts Self-immolation As Minister Threatens To Burn Them Alive

Bengaluru: A Karnataka minister has landed in trouble for allegedly threatening a family, whose members later attempted to immolate themselves, over a land dispute, police said on Wednesday.

A case has been registered against Karnataka’s Tourism, Ecology and Environment Minister Anand Singh and three others based on a complaint by D Polappa under Prevention of Atrocities Against SC-ST Act, and relevant sections of Indian Penal Code.

The case refers to a land dispute between a community and Polappa, who belongs to the Scheduled Caste.

In his complaint, Polappa alleged that members of the community requested the minister to help resolve the dispute when he visited the village on Tuesday. The minister threatened to burn the entire Polappa family.

The complainant arrived near the Hospet rural police station on Tuesday night with five of his family members and all of them tried to set themselves on fire. The cops noticed them and promptly rushed to their help, and took them to a hospital.

A case has also been registered against Polappa and the other five persons for attempting suicide, police said.
