Bhubaneswar: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) on Thursday arrested a man and his son in connection with a land scam case at Infocity area in Bhubaneswar.
The accused have been identified as Amareswar Das and his son Ratnakar Das. They were forwarded to the Court of the SDJM, Bhubaneswar on Thursday.
According to sources, Amareswar Das had sold some land to Badrinarayan Mishra at Jagannathprasad under Bhubaneswar Tahasil on April 19, 2013, mentioning his caste as Karana, while concealing his real caste, Bauri.
At the time of execution of the sale deed, his son Ratnakar Das, had signed the documents as a witness. As per the provision of the OLR Act, if a general caste person purchases land from a person belonging to the Scheduled Caste, prior permission is required from the Revenue Authority.
The accused had not taken any such permission and had executed the sale deed mentioning his caste as ‘Karana’. Subsequently, the sale deed became null and void, resulting in a huge loss to Badrinarayan Mishra.
Subsequently, on August 13, 2007, Amareswar Das made a General Power of Attorney along with an Agreement for Sale with Snigdha Pradhan of BJB, Nagar, Bhubaneswar mentioning his caste as Bauri and received the amount in lieu of it. His son and he used forged documents for the agreement.
