Bhubaneswar: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has arrested one Niranjan Satpathy in connection with a bank fraud case.
The arrested, hailing from Bakutugaon area of Ganjam district, was charged under Sections 419/420/468/471/34 of the IPC in the case pertaining to October 2012.
Following his arrest, he was forwarded to SDJM Court in Cuttack.
The instant case was registered on the complaint of senior manager of Allahabad Bank, Nayasarak Branch-Cuttack, Pranab Kumar Ray for alleged fraudulent availing of loan to the tune of Rs 2.26 crores by 85 people under ‘Sarala Loan’ scheme between December 2009 and March 2010 on the basis of forged documents in collusion with Establishment Officer, office of Chief Engineer (Drainage), Gandarpur-Cuttack, Rabindra Kumar Jena.
Investigation revealed Niranjan had availed Rs 3 lakh by impersonating as Junior Engineer in the office of Chief Engineer, Drainage, Gandarpur-Cuttack.
Earlier, 24 other accused in the case have been arrested and forwarded to court. Besides, 26 arrested have been released on bail on different dates on the orders of the Orissa High Court.
Meanwhile, the JMFC, Cuttack, has convicted Rabindra Kumar Jena after completion of the trial against him.
