Bhubaneswar: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Odisha, has arrested one person in connection with Rs 1 crore cheating case.
The accused has been identified as Surjit Kumar Dhal, a resident of Bhubaneswar and owner of web news portal ‘Reporters Today’ and newspaper ‘Mahabharat’. He will be produced in Designated OPID Court in Cuttack on Saturday.
According to EOW release, he was arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by Kalinga Keshari Rath, who is into real estate business. The accused allegedly cheated him of Rs 1 crore by using forged documents, including BDA approval, and posing as an influential person with big contacts. He also took a Mercedes and an Audi from the complainant. After coming to know about the fraud, the informant asked him to return his money and also the two costly vehicles. While Surjit returned the cars, he is yet to return the Rs 1 crore. Instead, he threatened to destroy his business using his influence.
Further investigation into the matter is on, it added.
