Puri: A group clash erupted at Nisibhanar in Puri district after a villager reportedly escaped from a quarantine centre and later tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday.
Bombs were hurled during the clash, in which one person was injured and several houses were damaged in the village. The injured is undergoing treatment at the Nuagaon community health centre.
According to sources, the escapee was lodged in a quarantine centre after his return from Delhi recently and tested for COVID-19. But before his test result could come out, the man escaped to the village without completing the mandatory quarantine period. Later, the test result confirmed that he was COVID-19 positive.
Several locals protested when they saw the man moving around the village and meeting people without being formally released from the quarantine centre.
This triggered the clash between two groups of villagers.
There was palpable tension in the village after the clash and adequate police force was deployed to maintain law and order.
