Even Before 1st Phase Of Polls, Election Commission Seizes Record Rs 4,650 Crore

New Delhi: The first phase of voting in Lok Sabha elections is still four days away. Already, authorities under the supervision of Election Commission of India (ECI) have seized a record Rs 4,650 crore.

The amount is “higher than the total seizures” made during the 2019 Parliamentary polls, the ECI said.

Enforcement authorities have been making seizures of more than Rs 100 crore every day, since March 1.

“With general elections 2024 underway, the Election Commission is on track for the highest-ever seizures of inducements recorded in the 75-year history of Lok Sabha elections in the country,” ECI stated.

Flying squads, statistics surveillance teams, video viewing teams and border checkposts have been working round the clock to make the seizures, informed ECI.

Efforts are also being made to ensure there was no movement and distribution of cash, liquor, freebies, drugs and narcotics.

ECI announced detailed schedule for Lok Sabha elections last month, setting seven phases — on April 19, April 26, May 7, May 13, May 20, May 25 and June 1.

Counting of votes will take place on June 4.
