Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) on Friday began an eviction drive on 1 acre of encroached land near AG Square here.
The old and huge building of Indira English Medium School situated on the piece of land was demolished during the drive that began at 6 am.
Adequate police personnel were deployed at the spot to provide security to the joint team of BMC and BDA officials and to avoid congestion on the busy road.
Earlier, notices were served to the encroachers regarding removal of the unauthorised structures.
However, the school was closed since a couple of years for illegal encroachment, sources said.
Reports indicate that Odisha Urban Museum will be set up on the said plot.
