Puri: To expedite Srimandir Parikarama Yojana (Heritage Corridor plan), the Puri administration on Saturday resumed the eviction drive within the 75-metre radius of Jagannath Temple.
Talking about the eviction drive, Puri sub-collector Bhabatarana Sahu said seven buildings will be demolished in the final phase of the drive. “Three private buildings will be demolished today. The owners of these seven buildings have been given due compensation,” he added.
According to official sources, land has been purchased directly from 115 families. While 512 shops and 24 lodges have been evicted, properties of 25 mutts have been acquired for the project.
On the other hand, some residents whose houses fall under the project area said that they will not vacate their houses as the government has not fulfilled its promise of compensation.
