New Delhi: To what extent can a person go to show his displeasure for being ignored by his party for elections?
As for former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor Haseeb-ul-Hasan, he can take his life – or at least attempt to!
Denied a ticket to contest the upcoming Delhi civic body (Municipal Corporation of Delhi) polls, Haseeb threatened to commit suicide by climbing a high-tension wire tower in front of Shastri Park Metro station.
AAP has released two lists of candidates for the Delhi MCD elections, but Haseeb’s name doesn’t figure in either of those.
As he perilously clung on to the tower, a huge crowd along with media personnel gathered there and urged him to come down. As he showed no signs of changing his mind, police personnel, fire brigade officials soon reached the spot and tried to prepare a ‘safe landing’ for Haseeb from quite a height.
Haseeb said he was protesting against Delhi CM and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, who was selling MCD tickets.
The former councillor claimed that AAP asked for money from him to let him contest the polls, but since he couldn’t meet their demand, Kejriwal gave the ticket to Deepu Chaudhary for Rs 3 crore.
