Balasore: A former BJD leader and information rights activist was critically injured after being attacked by miscreants with knife in Sahadevkhunta area of Odisha’s Balasore district on Sunday.

The activist, identified as Tanmay Mohanty, was attacked in front of his house by the miscreants. He sustained grievous injuries in the incident, sources said.

As per preliminary information, Mohanty was coming out of his house when two masked miscreants first pelted stones at him and one of them stabbed him with a knife before fleeing.

Mohanty was admitted to the local hospital, and his condition is said to be stable.

While the reason for the attack is yet to be ascertained, Mohanty accused Remuna MLA Sudhanshu Shekhar Parida and a contractor Prabhat Biswal of being responsible for the attack.

He had also moved the state Vigilance and Lokayukta alleging corruption by the legislator. He further alleged that Parida had earlier threatened to eliminate him. He made similar allegations against Biswal.
