Bhubaneswar: Former BJP leader of Bargarh district and vice-president of the party’s state unit Subash Chauhan, who had severed 30-year-old ties with BJP, joined the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Wednesday.
Accompanied by his supporters, Chauhan arrived at the Naveen Niwas this afternoon and formally joined the ruling party in the presence of the party president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

Talking to mediapersons, the senior politician said he decided to join the BJD having been inspired by the ideology of Naveen Patnaik. He further said that he had put no conditions for joining the regional party. “I have worked for the people for more than 30 years and will continue to do so in coming days. My fight against injustice will also continue,” he added.
Besides, the former BJP leader also reiterated his decision not to contest the elections this time.
The leader, however, clarified that his association with RSS will continues for days to come. He is a former national convenor of Bajrang Dal.

Chauhan was upset with the BJP for ignoring him and nominating Suresh Pujari for the Bargarh Lok Sabha seat, from where he had lost the last election to the BJD’s Prabhas Singh by just 11,178 votes. Even his supporters had opposed the decision and raised slogans against Padampur MLA Pradip Purohit and Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Though the senior leader, who also vented his ire against the party leadership on social media, had initially denied speculation that he would quit BJP, he did so on Tuesday alleging that one certain person had ambushed the party and was being shielded by the Sangh Parivar and his resignation was in protest against that person.
