Kandhamal: A Special Vigilance Court in Odisha’s Phulbani on Tuesday sentenced a former cooperative inspector to rigorous imprisonment for 3 years in a bribe case.
The Vigilance officials of Berhampur in Ganjam district had arrested Sitesh Ranjan Das, former cooperative inspector in the office of ARCS, Baliguda in Kandhamal district for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 15,000 from a complainant for renewal of allotment of 2 shops of RCMS at Raikia in his favour.
Hearing the case after Vigilance, Phulbani submitted the chargesheet, Special Judge, Vigilance, Phulbani sentenced Das to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 3 years and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on him under 7 PC Amendment Act, 2018. In default of payment of fine, he has to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for 3 months, the court ruled .
Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for dismissal of Das from service following his conviction.
Pulasti Chhatria, former Inspector, Vigilance, Berhampur Division had investigated the case and VV Ramdas, Special Public Prosecutor, Vigilance, Phulbani conducted the case on behalf of the prosecution.
