Sambalpur: Odisha Vigilance on Tuesday arrested a former director of a flour mill for allegedly misappropriating government money of over Rs 4 crore in association with the officials of a cooperative bank in Sambapur.
The case related to a criminal conspiracy by four officials of Sambalpur District Cooperative Central Bank Ltd (SDCC Bank) in association with Ghanteswari Flour Mills Pvt Ltd.
The officials allegedly abused their official positions to show undue favour to Ghanteswari Flour Mill in sanctioning and disbursing of loan and thereby, causing a loss of Rs 4,48,14,358 to the Bank as well as the public exchequer.
The Vigilance had chargesheeted all the four officials of SDCC Bank and Anil Kumar Beriwal, who represented Ghanteswari Flour Mills, as its director.
However, Beriwal repeatedly evaded attending the court during trial. Finally, Special Judge, Vigilance, Sambalpur issued a non-bailable warrant against him on November 19. On the basis of the NBW, the Vigilance officials arrested Beriwal and forwarded him to the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Sambalpur.
