Ex-India Opener Chetan Chauhan Yet To Recover From COVID, Put On Life Support

New Delhi: Former India opener Chetan Chauhan, who had tested positive for COVID-19 last month, has been put on ventilator. The Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) vice-president hasn’t recovered fully from the virus. His kidneys have been affected and he has developed blood pressure problems as well.

Chauhan had first been admitted to the Sanjay Gandhi PGI hospital in Lucknow before being moved to Gurugram’s Medanta Hospital. His condition deteriorated on Friday night, following which doctors decided to put him on life support.

“Early morning today, Chetan ji had a kidney failure and subsequently, had multi-organ failure. He is currently on life support. We are all praying that he wins this battle,” a senior DDCA official was quoted as saying by PTI.

Chauhan, a two-time MP from Amroha in Uttar Pradesh, was honoured with the Arjuna Award in 1981. During his 12-year India career, Chauhan played 40 Tests scoring 2084 runs with 16 half-centuries and bagging two wickets. He formed a formidable opening partnership with Sunil Gavaskar, with the duo scoring over 3000 runs, including 12 century stands.
