Cuttack: High drama was witnessed at Banki in Odisha’s Cuttack district on Friday when a retired army personnel hit the busy market area brandishing a sword and hammer, unleashing terror in the town.
Moving around the town in cinema style, the former jawan armed with the sharp weapon suddenly appeared in the main market area, leaving people terrorised, sources said.
The man, identified as Saroj Das of Harirajpur village under the jurisdiction of Banki Police Station, also reportedly ransacked an ATM kiosk and struck terror for around two hours in the area.
After creating a dramatic scene in the market area, he moved to the Kacheri ground in the town and tried to terrorise people by waving his sword in the air.
On being informed, a team of police personnel reached the site. The man even tried to attack the policemen before informing them that he was cheated by two persons who allegedly swindled money from him. He also showed them some papers he was carrying.
Stating that he had given a complaint to the inspector-in-charge of Banki police station, he alleged that two persons had had cheated him of his life savings promising him help in buying a Hyva truck around two years ago.
However, after taking huge amount from him, the duo gave him a second-hand truck. Though they promised to return his money with interest, the two have been avoiding him for the last two years, he claimed. Therefore, he has sought justice from the police and action against the duo
