Bhubaneswar: Former legislator of Odisha’s Jharsuguda Assembly constituency Birendra Pandey breathed his last while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar in the early hours of Sunday. He was 75.
According to sources, he was suffering kidney-related disease. He is survived by two sons and a daughter.
Born in 1948 at Purunabasti in Jharsuguda, Pandey was elected from this Assembly constituency three times (1980, 1985 and 1995) on a Congress ticket. He was also chairman of Jharsuguda municipality and president of the district unit of Congress.
Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee president Sarat Pattanayak and several other senior leaders of the party mourned his passing away.
