Ex-MLA Of Jaleswar Resigns From Congress, Likely To Join BJP

Balasore: Former MLA of Jaleswar Debi Prasanna Chand resigned from the primary membership of the Congress on Thursday.

Chand sent his resignation letter to Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Niranjan Patnaik.

Talking to the media, Chand said that despite being a disciplined member of the party since 1992, the party has not given him the due importance.

“The Congress is no longer a party of the people. It has been commercialized,” he pointed out.

According to sources in BJP, Chand is likely to embrace the saffron party and get a ticket to contest the assembly election from Jaleswar.

The former MLA was elected from the seat in 2009 Assembly elections. However, he lost to BJD candidate Aswini Kumar Patra in 2014.
