Ex-Puri MLA Condemns ISKCON Rath Jatra In Mumbai

Puri/Bhubaneswar: Senior BJD leader and former MLA of Puri Maheswar Mohanty on Monday vehemently condemned the untimely Rath Jatra organized by ISKCON in Mumbai on January 30.

“The people of Odisha and the Jagannath devotees should strongly protest against the activities of ISKCON. We will intensify our protests in the coming days,” Mohanty told mediapersons here.

Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) should restrain ISKCON from organizing Rath Jatra at its own will, he said.

Asked about the matter, Culture minister Jyoti Prakash Panigrahi said that the untimely Rath Jatra organized by the ISKCON was a telling blow to the Jagannath culture.

“The state government is aware that the ISKCON is not bound by law in the neighbouring states and abroad. It will take necessary steps in this regard soon,” he added.
