Kolkata: Former RG Kar principal Sandip Ghosh has moved the Supreme Court challenging Calcutta High Court’s order transferring the investigation into the corruption case against him to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
A bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra will hear the petition on Friday.
Ghosh, who is at the centre of a storm following the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the state-run RG Kar Medical College & Hospital last month, has also sought expunging of some remarks made against him by the high court.
Ghosh’s role has been under scanner not only for the institute’s role after the 31-year-old junior doctor’s semi-naked body was found in the seminar role, but also for alleged financial irregularities during his tenure as principal since 2021 — with a brief hiatus in between.
The state government set up a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the corruption angle, but following complaints by the hospital’s former deputy superintendent Dr Akhtar Ali, the high court transferred the case to CBI on August 23.
After hours of questioning over a fortnight, the CBI arrested Ghosh and three others on Monday in the corruption case.
In his petition, Ghosh said the high court did not hear him before ordering CBI investigation.
He stated that he filed a petition in the high court seeking to make himself a party, but it was rejected, which showed the “principles of natural justice” were not followed.
A bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra will hear the petition on Friday.
