Ex-Sarpanch Held For ‘Derogatory’ Social Media Post On Odisha Deputy CM

Bhubaneswar: A former Sarpanch has been arrested for allegedly posting derogatory remarks against Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida on a social media platform.

The accused, Manoj Nayak (47) of Oupada area in Balasore district, was arrested on March 7 on the basis of a complaint filed by BJP leader Jayant Dash at the cyber crime police station in Puri. He was apprehended from East Singhbhum district in Jharkhand, where he had fled to evade arrest.

Nayak had shared a digitally altered photograph of the deputy chief minister with offensive captions.

Police sources termed his action as mischievous and aimed at tarnishing Parida’s image. The investigation found no evidence of any personal or political animosity.

The former Sarpanch is now working as a labour contractor.
