Ex-Secy Of Cooperative Society Held For Embezzling Rs 13 Lakh In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance on Tuesday arrested former secretary of Bhadrak’s Bamanbindha Service Cooperative Society under BBCC Bank Ltd, Sudarsana Khatua, for alleged embezzlement of Rs 13 lakh government funds.

According to a Vigilance release, Khatua had siphoned off Rs 13,32,260 from savings bank deposits of members of the society by manipulating official records under different heads, showing less balance in the Day Book, and making excess Mondi Labour charges than the price fixed by the government.

A case has been registered against him and further investigation is underway.

This came a day after a suspended principal of a government school in Sonepur district, Soumya Ranjan Khet, was arrested on charges of misappropriating around Rs 55 lakh and investing the money in online betting.  Two panchayat officials in Puri district were also arrested the same day for allegedly misappropriating govt funds amounting to Rs 21.98 lakh, which were designated for old age pension and Madhubabu Pension Yojana during 2022-23 and 2024-25.
