Bhubaneswar: An ASI of Excise department has been dismissed from service on corruption charge in Odisha’s Cuttack district.
According to a press release of the department, Excise Commissioner Narasingha Bhol has dismissed Niranjan Khatua, assistant sub-inspector (ASI), Cuttack for taking illegal gratification from illegal liquor traders.
The department had received complaints that Khatua was taking bribe from illegal liquor traders for providing them protection from the actions of the officials. Besides, he was placed under suspension for allegedly consuming liquor inside a liquor shop.
The investigation by the Excise department confirmed the allegations and the Commissioner dismissed him from service. “There are ample evidence of him giving protection to illegal liquor traders. Instead of curbing illegal liquor trade, he has been found encouraging it,” said the release.
Five Excise personnel have been dismissed for their illegal activities during last five months. The process of taking action against corrupt and inefficient officials will continue in the future, the release added.
