Bhubaneswar: In a special drive against trafficking of illicit liquor during Dussehra in Odisha, the Excise Officials have detected a record number of 2,594 cases and arrested 2,202 persons.
In a press release on Thursday, Narasingha Bhol, Excise Commissioner, said the special drive against trafficking of illicit liquor, duplicate and non-duty paid foreign liquor was carried out from October 10 to 24.
During the special drive, 92,958 litre of illicit distilled Liquor, 248.34 litre of duplicate IMFL, 15 litre of non-duty paid foreign liquor, 118 litre of non-duty paid country liquor, 65.85 litre of non-duty paid Beer and 230 vehicles were seized. The approximate value of the seized articles was more than Rs 3 crore.
The Excise Superintendents of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sambalpur, Bargarh and Balasore have been issued appreciation letters for their enforcement activities.
The Excise Directorate is keeping a close watch on the enforcement activities of field functionaries. The monthly and fortnightly review of all districts and EI & EB units are being made regularly by the Excise Commissioner for strengthening the enforcement activities to prevent criminal activities, the release stated.
