Baripada: Excise officials have seized 300 bottles of spurious liquor prepared for serving in a marriage party in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.
According to sources, on reliable information about the spurious liquor, a team of Excise officials conducted a raid on the house of Bikartan Nayak of Uthani Nuagaon under Badasahi police station in the district on Sunday.
During the raid, the Excise officials seized 300 bottles of spurious liquor weighing 54 litre, spirit of 50 litre and empty bottles of reputed liquor brands and their stickers from inside the house. They also damaged the liquor preparing equipment and arrested Bikartan.
Bikartan told the officials that he used to produce spurious liquor by mixing artificial flavour with spirit and water. He was filling the empty liquor bottles of reputed bottles and sealing those with a machine. He was procuring the spirit and artificial flavour from Kolkata, he added.
Stating that he was not preparing so much amount of spurious liquor earlier, Bikartan said the seized bottles were meant for supply to a person who wanted to serve it in a marriage function.
