Bhubaneswar: Officials of the Excise Department seized over seven quintals of ganja from a truck during a raid in Bhubaneswa
r and arrested three persons in connection with the alleged smuggling.
Acting on a tip off, a team of the Bhubaneswar Excise intercepted a truck in Sahid Nagar police station area. During search, the team members recovered a large quantity of ganja concealed inside the vehicle.
Officials said the truck had arrived from Kandhamala district and was allegedly transporting the contraband to Bhubaneswar for onward shipment to another state by train.
While three accused persons were arrested from the spot, the truck was also seized. Further investigation is underway to bust the network involved in the interstate smuggling racket.
Efforts are on to identify other people linked to the illegal operation and trace the supply chain behind the ganja transportation.
