Sundargarh: A group of pregnant women belonging to Lahunipara in Odisha’s Sundargarh district were duped over Rs 60,000 after falling prey to online scammers in the name of Mamata Yojana.
The scamsters called the women claiming to send Rs 6,000 under Mamata Yojana and instead scammed them of all their savings, sources said.
The incident has triggered a protest in Lahunipada and the local police registered a case on the basis of complaints by the victims.
A woman from Rajamunda received a call about her eligibility for medicines, and other benefits from the state government under Mamata Yojana.
She provided him with an OTP that he had sent to her and in seconds the woman found Rs 20,000 debited from her bank account, the sources added.
Similarly, another Asha worker also fell victim to the scamsters and lost all her money. The police and cyber cell have launched a probe in this connection.
