Malkangiri: Expelled BJD leader and Zilla Parishad member Sasmita Majhi have been arrested in connection with a job fraud case.
According to sources, she was nabbed from Jagatsinghpur district on Thursday and was being brought to Malkangiri.
Majhi was allegedly part of a well-organised syndicate, which included two more persons – Ramesh Chandra Rout and Jeeban Sahu, that duped unemployed youths of several lakhs of rupees with false promises of government jobs. This was revealed after a complaint in this regard was lodged at Mathili police station in Malkangiri district, following which she was expelled from BJD for anti-people activities on August 27.
On August 26 evening, Rout of Kendrapada district was apprehended by a special team of Malkangiri police from Khurda for allegedly duping job seekers by posing as brother-in-law of bureaucrat-turned-politician V K Pandian. It took police eight days to track him down.
