Bhubaneswar: The 13th International Bauxite, Alumina & Aluminium Conference was inaugurated at CSIR-IMMT in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday.
The three-day international conference is being organised by International Bauxite, Alumina & Aluminium Society (IBAAS) in association with Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (IMMT) and Indian Institute of Metals (IIM), Bhubaneswar chapter.
Prominent industry experts in the alumina sector, including Nalco CMD Brijendra Pratap Singh; Hindalco president Kailash Pandey; CSIR–IMMT director Ramanuj Narayan; JNARDDC director Anupam Agnihotri and Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) director Mark Annandale, addressed the inaugural session.
Speakers deliberated on the key theme of the conference “A green and smart aluminium industry for tomorrow,” focusing on sustainability of the industry. Technical sessions on important topics relating to bauxite mining, alumina refining and aluminium smelting were held during the conference in which industry captains deliberated and made valuable suggestions. A technical exhibition was also inaugurated.
In his keynote address, Pandey informed about the roadmap being prepared by Hindalco for use of renewable energy, emission reduction, fuel switching and decarbonisation in the process of alumina refining and smelting. Hindalco’s Innovation Centre for Energy and Decarbonisation is making serious efforts on this aspect, he added.
About 86 abstracts of technical papers by aluminium leaders and research scholars were presented. The IBAAS 2025 ESG Awards were conferred upon industry persons for their immense contribution towards sustainability in the aluminium industry.
Nearly 300 delegates representing about 100 companies from India and abroad participated in the mega event. Among others present during the inaugural function were secretary of IBAAS Arun Nandi and convenor of IIM and advisor to Hindalco Bibhu Mishra.
