Bhubaneswar: Experts stressed role of nutrition and diet management in healthcare services in SUM Ultimate National Nutrition Orientation (SUNNO 2.0) programme, organised at the Sum Ultimate Medicare (SUMUM) in Bhubaneswar, on Saturday.
Dr Swetapadma Dash, Chief Executive Officer of SUMUM, who inaugurated the day-long event, said, “This year’s theme, ‘Clinical Nutrition in Action’, underscores how vital nutrition is for healing and recovery. Identifying nutritional imbalances, especially in critically ill patients, helps us prevent complications and improve patient outcomes,” she said.
“The potential in this field is vast, ranging from personalised nutrition plans to breakthrough research,” she said underlining the need for taking up research topics and organising clinical updates every quarter.
SOA’s founder president Prof Manojranjan Nayak said empowering healthcare professionals with the latest knowledge about nutrition was vital for delivering exceptional patient care. “SUNNO 2.0 is a significant step towards achieving that
goal,” he said.
Brig (Dr) Biraj Mohan Mishra, SUMUM’s Chief of Medical Services appreciated the enthusiastic participation of the fraternity of dietetics in Odisha and acknowledged the hospital’s dietetics team for its invaluable support in patient treatment.
Dr Srikant Kumar Dhar, Senior Consultant in the Department of Medicine and Academic Advisor of SUNNO said updates covering every age group, from pediatrics to geriatrics with focus on specific organs, had been planned to raise awareness to benefit the society.
Sushri Sangeeta Jena, organising secretary, mentioned that it had been proposed to hold an international conference in the future.
The academic programme featured nine different speakers from across the country on various subjects. PG Department of Psychiatry in IMS and SUM Hospital; Dr Purna Chandra Das, Consultant, Geriatric Medicine, SUMUM; Dr Shweta Parida, Assistant Professor, KIMS and Dr Alisha Choudhury of Critical Care Medicine.
