Explosive Claim: Seized Money Not Mine, Says Sacked Minister Partha Chatterjee

Kolkata: Sacked West Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee, who has been arrested in connection with the SSC teacher recruitment scam, made an explosive claim on Sunday.

Chatterjee, who was brought to the ESI hospital for medical examination today, said that the huge amount of cash – about Rs 50 crore – seized by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) from two flats of his close aide Arpita Mukherjee does not belong to him.

Mukherjee, another accused in the SSC scam, has also been arrested.

When newspersons asked who is behind the teacher recruitment scam, Chatterjee said: “When the time comes, you will know… the money does not belong to me.”

Chatterjee’s bank accounts are being checked, according to ED officials.

The agency has begun the process of freezing five bank accounts of Mukherjee, where they have found at least another Rs 2 crore.

ED is also scanning other accounts linked to ‘shell companies’ allegedly operated by Mukherjee.
