Fact Check: Are These Earthquake-Damage Images From Tajikistan?

Dubai: Two photographs of critically damaged buildings, following an earthquake in Tajikistan on Friday, have gone viral.

The central Asian country was hit by an earthquake of 6.3 magnitude, with the epicentre being to the southeastern part of the country, a largely unpopulated mountain terrain.

However, the images of the destroyed buildings are old and not caused by the recent earthquake.

One of the photographs is from Turkey in 2020 and the other from Italy in 2018. This has been verified by a reverse image search on Google. These were, however, caused by earthquakes there. In December 2018, Italy was hit by an earthquake of 4.8 magnitude.
