New Delhi: The cash-for-questions case took a fresh twist on Wednesday with Nishikant Dubey and Mahua Moitra indulging in another sparring session.
BJP MP Dubey, who had accused Mahua of asking questions in Lok Sabha to target the Adani Group and Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the behest of businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for gifts, claimed that the Lokpal has ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into his complaint of corruption against the Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP.
There was no official confirmation from the central agency.
The feisty female MP from West Bengal’s Krishnanagar responded in typically defiant tone, saying that the CBI first needs to file an FIR in the Adani coal scam, and then it is “welcome to come, count my shoes”.
According to Dubey, Hiranandani used Mahua’s login to file questions from different locations, mostly Dubai. Mahua did admit that Hiranandani had used her login details but rejected any financial considerations, saying that most MPs share their login credentials with other people.
Mahua, who had been summoned by the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee on November 2, stormed out of the meeting along with Opposition members, accusing chairperson BJP MP Vinod Kumar Sonkar of asking ‘filthy’ and personal questions.
Sonkar dismissed Mahua and Opposition members’ claims as a case of unethical conduct aimed at shielding her.
The Ethics Committee will hear the matter on November 9.
