Fact Check: Is Former India Captain Sourav Ganguly Set For His Acting Debut?

Mumbai: A biopic on Sourav Ganguly is in the works, with Rajkummar Rao set to portray the former Team India captain’s character.

But is the cricketer turned reality show host set to make his acting debut also?

A Netflix promo, which dropped on Monday, set social media abuzz with speculations and excitement.

Following the success of ‘Khakee: The Bihar Chapter’, the creators unveiled ‘Khakee: The Bengal Chapter’ with a promotional video that is winning the internet mainly because it features Sourav.

One of the most successful Indian cricket captains, Sourav steps into the spotlight, in front of the camera.

The promo kicks off with Sourav, clad in police officer’s uniform, walking into the sets of Neeraj Pandey’s crime thriller web series on the first day of shooting.

“You are making a show on Bengal, and you have not invited Dada?” Sourav asks the makers with images of The Bengal Tiger in the background.

Pleasantly surprised to see Sourav, the director asks him what role he would play?

Sourav is offered the role of an “honest and strict” police officer.

The director advises to bring in aggression into the role.

“There is plenty of aggression.. Let me think of somebody,” he quips and visualises former India coach Greg Chappell, with whom he had a major fallout in 2005-06. He is immediately transformed into a person full of rage and anger, and is asked to thrash criminals.

He gives the audition and nails the test. But Sourav is left stumped when he is told to shoot all his action scenes in just eight seconds.

“How will I do it in seconds? That won’t be possible for me,” he admits, before asking, “Will there be another role for me?”

That’s when the cat gets out of the bag.

“Will you do the marketing for the show?” the director agrees.

Sourav happily agrees.
