Fact Check: Was Bhagat Singh Sentenced To Death On February 14?

A viral message claiming freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru were sentenced to death in Lahore on Valentine’s Day in 1931 is doing rounds on social media.

The message, written in Hindi and Bengali, claims: “February 14 is not just Valentine’s Day. On this day in 1931, Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru were sentenced to death in Lahore.”

However, India Today has found out that the judgement sentencing Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru to death was delivered by a Lahore court on October 7, 1930, and the trio was hanged on March 23, 1931.

Hence, February 14 has no significance in the entire case.
