Doha: Afghanistan’s capital city airport has been chaotic ever since the Taliban took over Kabul. Images of foreign troops helping children and families escape have been doing rounds on social media.
A particular photograph of a foreign soldier holding a baby has gone viral on social media. The photo is being circulated with the caption: “US soldiers rescuing children in Afghanistan” and has praises for the US army in comments across most social media platforms.
However, India Today reported that the soldier is actually a British corporal and not an American one. The news was first published by Sky News with the same photo.
Sky News reported that the baby was passed over the barbed wire first, then followed by the mother and her pram.
The soldier, who wasn’t aware that his photograph was taken, said he was doing his job and he hopes the woman and the baby made it out of the country safely.
